Stuart Christie: 'The ‘Free-Winged Eagle’ had a wee bit of an impact at the time on the seal-cull, the prospect of uranium mining, halting an SAS exercise — and exposing the role of Orkney’s Lord Lieutenant, the mercenary Brigadier Malcolm Dennison, Britain’s SIS man in Oman and head of the Oman Intelligence Service/Oman Research Department, in installing and maintaining Sultan Qaboos in power. As editor and publisher it earned me the sobriquet of ‘Satan’s emissary on earth’ from the Free Church minister on Westray and Papa Westray, who denounced ‘The Free-Winged Eagle’ from the pulpit as the ‘work o’ the Devil’!'.
